Coil
and compass needles
An
exhibit for CERN in Geneva
.
Pressing and holding a button to switch on an electric current through
the coil produces a strong magnetic field, whose pattern is shown by the
compass needles.
When current is flowing a red indicator illuminates and the polished
acrylic block, supporting the coil and protecting the wires, is lit up
from beneath.
