Earthquest

I produced the initial concept, interactive exhibits, scripting and teachers pack for Earthquest in the Dunluce Centre, Portrush, Northern Ireland. It opened in June 1993 and the client was Coleraine Borough Council.

Earthquest brought a new kind of interactive approach to earth-science, nature-study and wildlife. Again, popular appeal was combined with extremely low maintenance.

Exploration is the key thing here, and Earthquest is full of surprises. There are solid-state sound-effects everywhere : some timed, some under pushbutton control and many triggered automatically by movement sensors. There are lift-up flaps, feely-holes, electronic quizzes, touchable fossils and animal models, dark crawl-in experiences, pushbutton earthquake, and awesome do-it-yourself thunderstorm with projected lightning flashes.

It is packed with information relating closely to the local environment, yet manages to compete directly and successfully for paying visitors with the "leisure-type" attractions which flank it within the Dunluce Centre.
